Aloes in bloom

This is the time of the year for Aloe to show off their amazing flowers. Keep an eye out in your neighborhood! This Aloe arborescens is one we get to enjoy in our front yard at GROW.

Perry Castellano

Perry is an artist that we have been working with for sometime now and we love eveything he does for us. From mobiles to cacti sculptures to these wonderful fountains Perry is always right on. Enjoy.

Rachell Sumpter

I have had my eye on Rachell's work for quite a while and noticed that she has recently been making a few of her pieces with my favorite cacti in them.
Nice.

Sister Corita Kent

I know that this isn't as 'garden' related as you may be used to on this blog, but I think that it's relative with all that's going on in the world today. Sister Corita kent is an amazing artist that you may not know about but you should. I had the opportunity to see some of her work at a show they had for her here at the SLO Art Center and was blown away. You will be too.

Scandinavian Design Center

Found some really nice garden related things on the Scandinavian Design Center website this weekend and I think you should check it out. The birdbath or 'bird table' as they say, is definitely on my wish list. The plant print is something fun and inexpensive and the planter is out of this world. Check 'em.

Cayucos Clayworks

Richard Rowe has been making very nice pottery for a ton of years. We carry a wide variety of his work and especially love these 'striata' planters he's been making lately. Coming soon will be an entire portion of the store dedicated to handmade ceramics with Richard as the primary curator of that space. More to come on that later...

Found this crazy cactus building designed by ucx architects.
I wish I lived there...

A+R

Ben Loiz worked with A+R designing and developing their new site that just launched. We got a sneak preview and these are some of our favorites for the garden. Lots more to see, so check it out

Modern Madness

I was put in contact with Josh Herman through Boomerang , a store filled to the gills with insane vintage furniture and accessories. Soon after, I fell in love again. I just can't get enough of this kind of stuff. Someone tell Santa.

Our buddy Amber at busy-being.com just got an order of the new GROW tees in amongst lots of other goodies like this great fruit bowl tee designed by Wayne Pate of GoodShapeDesign. Checkout the new update.

Botanical Cacti Prints

I recently stumbled across these fantastic old botanical prints on panteek.com . For those looking for something truly timeless, this may just be what the doctor ordered.

Atomic Bonsai

Wow. What people come up with these days. I found this awesome cardboard bonsai kit (with ben's help) for all those plant lovers with a black thumb. Chocosho has a ton of really great stuff to checkout but this is surely my fav.

Rust, Rust, and more rust.

Being a collector of many things has it's advantages. From Modern furniture and pottery to anything rusty, I want it all so when my buddy Justin offered up all of these garden shears and old sprinklers I couldn't say no. Take a look at the new wall ornaments that adorn the front of GROW. Thanks Justo.

Varni is back

One of the artists we always welcome into the shop is Charles Varni. A Central Coast native, Charles makes some of the nicest planters we see. His crazy glazes and ultra nice shapes are soon to sell out, so get yours fast!

Planting with Vintage

Some are too speckled, some too grandma, and some just plain gaudy but vintage pottery is a fun way to add some interest to your home and garden. If you scour the antique malls and swap meets like I do, your sure to find a piece just right for you. Here are a few examples of what GROW is into and how we might plant them up. More to come...

The goat on the right is a planter that is slated for my grandma, the Capricorn in the family!
(Or is it a Ram...?)

Up in the air...

After holding out for over a year and a half, GROW finally found a good source for Tillandsias (airplants as they are commonly refered to) and decided to establish an entire section dedicated to the unusual plants that hail from the Southern United States all the way down to South America. We have over 50 varieties in stock. Some in bloom, and some not, but all very interesting and reasonable in price. For more info, email me via the contact page of our website.

Hecho en Mexico

One of GROW’s newest additions are these incredible handmade Mexican tiles that we are selling as coasters. On a recent trip to Baja I found a cache of really nice one off’s and scores of nice sets. Available as singles, sets of two and sets of four.

Modern meets planet Mars

As I search around for more and more, I keep going back to the pottery of Adam Silverman . His Modern meets planet Mars aesthetic, with tons of crazy glaze colors and textures, definitely makes me want to get my hands muddy.

Man Eaters

While we carry a wide range of bug eating plants, we thought these seed packs from sprout home in Chicago were well worth dropping a line about. While you're deciding which carnivorous pack you want for your windowsill, check out the rest of their well designed stock.

Back to the Future

As a huge fan of just about anything mid-century, I thought it would be fitting to make our first pottery spot focus on the almighty Architectural Pottery. AP is one of those companies that didn’t slip once. Everything they put out is well designed and on-point. Nowadays, the old original stuff from the 50’s, 60’s is worth more than my car but now Vessel U.S.A. is remaking them in all of their original glory.

Limited Edition Grow Tees

First up in the GROW series of plant based products are some limited edition t-shirts designed by our friends, Ben Loiz, Gary Benzel, Cody Hudson. Keep your eyes peeled for the upcoming feature on our home page that explains the haps.

For an upclose look, or if your dying to get one of Ben’s shirts, they are currently available at Neenoon and soon to be available at busy-being.

Let the blogging begin.

Welcome to the Grow Nursery blog. Our plan for this new undertaking is to feature things we like, things were doing and new and exciting finds. We have so much planned for the remainder of this year and throughout next year that I can barely wait! I look forward to sharing some of our unusual plants with you and hope that our constant blogs will be informative and interesting. We should be updating a few times a week so check back often and don't hesitate to send comments. Enjoy.
